This was an email we received today from- Joyce Schwarz. She is the author of the upcoming book “Vision Boards.”

SO if you get any kewl vision boards — we can feature them on the site for the upcoming book THE VISION BOARD I am writing for Harper Collins Publishing, fall, 2008 and maybe include some of your sensei tips in the upcoming workbook. js.

So this could be a good experience for the children to do something that can be seen by thousands of people. I really need to start working on my vision board. Time is running out.

Vison Board-Three Days left

June 25, 2008

Well, the pressure in on right now for everyone participating in the Back to school edge program. There is only three days left to complete the assignment. I have to be honest, I haven’t even started yet. I can’t wait to dedicate some time to this task. I believe it will be a such a relaxing task, and good time for me to think about my future.

I also wanted to explain the assignment in more detail. I was telling one of the parents that “Life skills” aren’t taught in school or in team sports.( I’m sure there is always your exception or special coach or teacher that does.)  Also it is or job to teach the life skills that will last forever. I am especially grateful for the life skills that were taught to me by my parents. After spending the last 16 years in the real world ( Since I was 18) I really have come to appreciate my parents. I know NOW, that my parents were awesome. And I have taken alot of my dad with me.

What I’m saying is this is a great opportunity to teach your children, or yourself about goal setting. Teaching someone how to set and accomplish goals is one of the most valuable life lessons that can be taught. Please do your best to make it happen. The vision board should be what you see in your future. There is no pass or fail. Be you! This is the best advice I ever recieved from a close friend “Be You” . I would love to see your vison board.

Week 1-Vision Board-Champions Edge Program

June 21, 2008

Week 1-Vision Board

In the past we have had our students fill out our goal sheets on a piece of paper. For this assignment we would like the students to make their very own vision board. This project is for everyone. Whether your in our kids class or an adult Muay Thai student, this exercise is exciting.

What is a “Vision Board” ? A vision board is your vision of where your life is heading. It’s where you would like your life to go. Please remember there are no two vision boards that should look the same. One suggestion is to cut of pictures of a dream house, a leader that you hope to become. If you hope to have a big family one day, cut out a picture of a family. Another option is to make a desktop vision board for your computer.

Be creative with this assignment and if children’s are performing this task, please provide your child with guidance but let the children be creative and use their imagination.

I look forward to seeing your vision board. Get started!

Regards,

Sensei Nick

Remembering Mike Giandrea

June 11, 2008

Monday morning my mom called me at the school and told me that a childhood friend passed away. His name was Michael Giandrea. I met him in third grade, and were close until our early twenty’s when we both went in different directions (He went to vegas, I started traveling to Martial Arts Tournaments. We both drove our parents crazy, especially during our teen years. Our parents were the ones who always drove us to the movies, and had everyone over our houses for dinner. Mike was the assistant casino manager of a major casino in Las Vegas. While driving home from work, a drunk driver was on the opposite side of the road and killed him instantly.

It was shocking to hear this tragic story and I would like to send my condolences to his family. If you knew Mike please send me an email. I would like to make a section on my blog in remembrance of him. He was my first friend when I moved from South Philadelphia to New Jersey. I grew up with him, and considered him one of my best friends. I’m going to miss you Mike, but I will always m all the fun times we shared together. You were always the center of attention, and I will never forget when you came to my window to borrow a pair of “Z Cavarrici” pants I had because my mom would flip out if she new I would let you or Bob borrow my clothes.

I remember playing whiffle ball with you, Doug Smith, Bob Kahler, Ryan Landers, at your house like every day. I remember eating bagels and Ice Tea every morning in the summer at your house. I remember watching all the Mike Tyson Fights at my house or yours. I remember when we would get in fights for hanging around each other too much. I remember you dad always driving us to the movie. I remember me, you , Bob, Shivers, and a whole bunch of girls listening to “Mill Vanilli” all night in my basement, one of the best nights ever.

I remember the night Scott Landers, and Dave Taylor saved us from the “Deptoford Township Posse” and by the way. you started it. LOL….. But that was a crazy night. I remember the night when the “Fam” came to your house and was looking for you. Man, we shared so many times together. But I so Happy to talk to your Dad today and hear that you were doing so well with your life. He was so proud of you, I am so proud of what you did with your life. There were hundreds of people and old friends today in remembrance of you.

Life lesson of the week-The way you look

June 9, 2008

  The way you look

I was talking to a student last week, and she was having some challenges with another person in her life. And just like I tell all my students the day they walk in for their first lesson. Don’t look at the person in front of you, the person behind you, or the person next to you. Worry about You! You are the most important person in the world. This is true, because if mentally or physically you lose it, you can effect others around you. So if you can keep composure, and self control, others around you will be ok as well. In other words its all a mental game, but the lesson today is it all comes down to “the way you look at it.”

When I was faced with major challenges last year, and was really hurt by people I thought I could trust, the “way I looked” at the situation was the key in me moving forward in a positive direction. Ok, let’s break it down-without “trust” there is no way a relationship that can work in my opinion. Its amazing sometimes that I see people that are involved in a relationship, whether its business or personal who have trust issues. Be confident-Make your move! Life is too short. Of course it will hurt, but don’t concentrate on all the negative feelings. Look to a brighter future, and visualize how you will feel, think how your confidence will increase by making this move. Remember who the most important person in the world is?

So, I needed to see how “I” would be able to move forward and move on. There would be no way I could ever make the relationship work, so I had to do what was best for me. The “Way I looked” at it was simple and exciting, it was a new beginning. I was ready to lead, I was ready to take a major risk. Now remember with the larger the risk the larger the possible reward.(Notice how I looked at RISK)  And sometimes reward isn’t a financial gain. I have run my school with ideas and programs that others would not agree with. I made some changes that I felt were better for the students. I love the Champion “Way of Life.” Unless you are in classes and understand the mindset that it gives you, you have no idea what you are missing.

Anyway, whether its a bad month with work, a poor relationship with a co worker, or your just having a bad day…..You can make the change, you can make it different. Just remember the “Way you look” at the situation will determine how you move forward. I not telling you to just get up and leave, or end a relationship. Im telling you all the information is there, and not to make a decision based on emotion. Make your decision after you have evaluated the whole situation, looked at what is really going on, and then do what is best for you!

I was talking to one of my dearest friends in the world, and the most remarkable thing is, I have only seen him 4 times in my life. But we talk, email, and blackberry message each other every day. We have both been there for each other, and he has a simple rule. he calls it he 10 percent rule. Check this.

If the decison will effect 3/4 years of your life

 then

Spend 3/4 months in aming a decision.

 Use this formula-It works great!

Life Skills exercise-How often do you do this? Probably never like everyone else….

Read story and send me back what you see going on, and how you would handle the situation.

You go into work and its been a tough month. Your sales are down, you were making more money in the past and with the economy you recently took a pay cut. You might not be able to do that vacation with your family that you usually do. Everyone around you is complaining about the business and how its not fair that they also had to take a pay cut.

I would love to hear your feedback! I will send you the my checklist on how to evaluate situatios before making a decision. Then read the same story and see if your answers differ.

Sensei Nick
