The Mixed Martial Arts workout has arrived

January 23, 2008

The Mixed Martial Arts workout has arrived at Champions Way of Life. I just wanted to take the time to tell everyone about it and provide you with information on how to get started. First, our Mixed Martial Arts program is for beginners only. No experience is required to get started. All that is necessary is for you to call the school and set up one of your two private lessons.

Next week most adults will be starting their 6 week trial program for $99. It allows the students to come to two private lessons, and 3 regular classes per week. The Mixed Martial Arts is a combination of kickboxing, jui jitsu, boxing, self defense, judo, striking, fitness training, and fun.

We are currently offering classes on Tuesday and Thursday morning at 5:30 for students that need a early class. In addition we offer classes 6 days per week, and a 11:00am workout on Tuesday and Thursday.

If you would like to come for a private lesson, please give us a call at 740-9915 or send me an email at SenseiNick@championswayoflife.com.

Make a difference Week

January 21, 2008

This week we are going to call it ”Make a Difference Week” at Champions Way of Life Sicklerville and Turnersville.  I watched both football games this weekend, and I knew that the Giants and Patriots were going to win. How? Because of team work, and having more people on both teams that “Made a difference.”

On the Giants, the Head Coach, and defensive coordinator “Made more of a Difference” than the coach of Green Bay and the defensive coordinator. On the Patriots, Juior Seau and Kevin Falk just made more of a difference than anyone on the Chargers.

What is making a difference? Making a difference is caring more, going the extra mile, pushing yourself to the limit, pushing someone else to go further, and a combination of many things that give you the inner strength to make to the top. We all have it in us to make a difference, sometimes we just need that spark to get that fire going. I am trying to make a difference in the overall energy of the school.  I’m trying to make a difference every-time I step onto the mat, by making a difference in someones life. By teaching how to have the focus to do anything you want, or to never settle for mediocrity, or to give a workout that will give you the energy to help you make a difference to others. This is how I am trying to make a difference.

This week all students and parents that are interested in “Making a Difference” can come to the front counter and get a “Make a difference ” sheet. The goal is to make a difference in 5 ways by the end of the week. Please hand it in next Monday of you wish to participate.

If you have any suggestions on how we can make a difference as a team, please send your idea and I will ask all of my contacts to help participate in the cause. I’m looking for others who want to “Make a Difference!”

Pain is temporary but quitting lasts forever

January 16, 2008

As a full time martial arts instructor for the past 15 years I have taught well over 10,000 students. In that time I have talked to numerous students who have wanted to quit training in the martial arts. The reasons have ranged from ” I don’t have enough time” to “I just don’t like it anymore.” At times I have thought it was good for some students to move on and try something else because they just didn’t understand what the martial arts are about. And there were other times where I didn’t have the support or the push from their parents to help them reach the primary goal “Black Belt Excellence.”

Today my message is to help explain what “Black Belt Excellence ” is and to help parents, students and any other people reading this Blog to understand that “Pain is temporary but quitting lasts forever.” First lets start with Black Belt Excellence, this is giving your best with everything you do. Black Belt Excellence is having the self discipline to do things on your won without being told. The little things like taking pride in everything you touch, and not having to be reminded to do the really, really hard things that most people don’t want to do.  BBX is the having the power to make it through the rough times without turning to drugs, alcohol, or food. These are the three things that people without BBX turn to in the difficult times.

BBX is doing the right thing in life, work, and relationships. We all make mistakes, and as long as we learn from them and move forward mistakes and or poor choices can happen. But how we respond, and getting back up after we fall is the difference between a black belt and a white belt. I’m not saying that you have to be a Black Belt to be successful or to to the right thing. But what I am saying is that is you train at our school, you will get the benefits of BBX.

Now, moving on to quitting and pain. Pain is when a friend let’s you down. Pain is when you lose your job. Pain is when someone close you you is sick or passes. Pain is when someone breaks their trust, or leads you in the wrong direction. Pain is when you can’t control your emotions because your angry. Pain Hurts! But, its OK! Because it will pass. With the right attitude that is. With the Black Belt attitude, pain is temporary and you will bounce back.

I wanted to list things that have been painful to me in the past year.

1. Losing someone I thought was a friend and mentor.

2. Seeing a dear friend struggle financially.

3. After a jui jitsu class that was too hours long. ( I lost 5/6 pounds)

4. When I was doing pad drills and a student punched me right in my nose

5. Seeing someone special with me getting diagnosed with cancer.

These are all painful, but I have to keep going.

OK, its time for the curse word in life-QUITTING

Quitting is something that we all have done in our life. Some of us have quit job’s, some of us have quit sports, and some of us have quit in relationships. I want to talk about the biggest regret in my life, quitting college. And looking back now, I wish I could go back in time and change my decision. Even though I have made martial arts a success, I could be even better and more educated. At the time, I didn’t listen to my parents. I was training in the martial arts and my instructor was more worried about having someone to clean the school, mop the mats, teach the classes, enroll the students than giving me the advice to back to school. Why? Because it made his job easier, and he wasn’t concerned with my personal growth. But, I learned from this mistake and wish I would have finished my education at Philadelphia Textile ( now Philadelphia University). Just an example that quitting last forever, 16 years later to be exact.

Things I regret quitting in my life

1. College

Why did I quit? Because I was bored, I didn’t like it, and I wanted to hang with my friends. Very similar reasons to other activities or things in life that we quit. I hope that you enjoy this motivation and you can use it or read it before your faced with quitting in your life.

Should I quit Cheat Sheet

1. Will it help me in Life?

2. Will it make me a better person?

3. Is my hear telling me to quit? Or someone else?

4. Is it a positive thing in my life?

5. Is someone influencing my decision?

6. Will I regret it later in life?

Hope you enjoy and send it to a friend,

Sensei Nick

Why is Champions Way of Life so special?

January 14, 2008

Today I woke up and just felt AWESOME!I hope that you can use this entry for motivation and way to make your day, week, or life great. There are alot of special things going on here at Champions. You can just feel it in the air. Let me tell you why and what is going on.

First, me and the staff are just excited to be teaching martial arts to students from all over. It is the most rewarding job in the world to be a teacher, and when the teacher is motivated, the students are motivated. I am calling out to anyone reading this article to get in for class, or to start training today.

Today, me and my wife decided to help out a special girl and to become her foster parents. Its a huge responsibility, but we are here to give back and help people that deserve it. The special girl is an honor student, an athlete, and a great person. She has had to overcome tremendous adversity at such a young age. I have sat there and wondered if I was in her situation at her age what would I do. I might have just given up and blamed the world. Not her, her perseverance has amazed and motivated me to take my instruction to another level. Some people want to be helped, and are motivated to make a difference.

I was also amazed by a special person who decided to give me this opportunity to help her. This person has been a teacher, guidance counselor, assistant superintendent, director of special needs for over 30 years. In listening to him talk about responsibility, leadership, and hard work I have been motivated like when I talk to one of my other mentors Master Farid. Its so great to be around people with a driven, contagious attitude that never give up on the greater good of the younger generation coming up. This special person will be coming to our school to talk to our kids about determination in the next few months. So stay tuned, and please make every effort possible to have you and your children make this special event.

Moving on, there are alot of exciting events coming up and news that I want you to know about. We have a great way to spend time with the family this weekend, join us at the wachovia center this Saturday as our 65 demo team children will be performing on court at the wachovia center at 7:00 PM. If you would like tickets please call the school, we are offering two different packages-$15 or $30 tickets.

Let me continue and just say that everyone in town must know that our new kickboxing program is the talk of the town. Every night last week, Fires Mill Road was backed up and we had over 45 students in our kickboxing class. Students are loosing weight, getting in shape, and more importantly having fun doing it. My Boot-camp class has been great as well. We are proud to have local police officers, and state troopers taking part in this class.

And finally, I just wanted to say there is way more to come. We are having a fun night in a few weeks, a tournament workshop weekend, a tournament, a free skating party at skaters choice, a business network meeting, and look for me to be doing motivational assemblies in the Glassboro school district.

If you would like an information or any of our upcoming events or would like to set up a visit to the place to be in Washington Township please give us a call or send me a line!

Come watch us teach today,

Sensei Nick

Boot Camp, Kickboxing, and Children’s Martial Arts Classes now forming!

January 7, 2008

If your looking for a fast way to get in shape we have a few ways that could help you out. First we are offering an eight week boot-camp class that is every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 5:30 am. We had 15 in the class last Thursday and from the feedback I received it was a great success.

The boot-camp is a mixture of kickboxing, boxing, and fitness training that incorporates jump ropes, medicine balls, toning bands and bag work. If you would like to participate in the boot-camp please send me an email or give me a call at the school to get started as soon as possible.

As far as our kickboxing program, we are currently offering a six week course for $99 that includes boxing gloves and allows students to train every day except Sunday. For the class schedule or to set up an appointment before starting the program please give us a call at the school.

If you would like to get your child started in one of our martial arts programs, now is the perfect time. We are offering a free trial program that includes to free private lessons, and a free class. Our program director will spend 30 minutes per lesson showing the parents the benefits of training in the martial arts as well as giving your child a good workout to feel like a martial artist. We start at ages 3 and up, and there is no other activity like the martial arts for your child.

Our Tiny Champions (3/4) and Little Champions (5,6) program is a great way to introduce your child or children to the martial arts. Both age specific programs are designed to teach your children how to learn, focus, and build confidence.

Our Future Champions (7-12) program is the best in the world. For students and parents that are committed to attending two classes per week the results are guaranteed. With the best instructors in town, our classes are second to none. Teaching life skills through martial arts is why our program is the best. Our students are scholars in school, leaders in everything they do, and strive for excellence in everything they do buy using the principles of martial arts taught by their instructors. Have your child become a Champion Of LIFE.

In closing I just wanted to share some of our success stories with you that will motivate you to either sign up yourself or your child. Our studetns who have gone the distance and become Black Belts in our school over the past eight years have participated in community evetns such as toy drives, C.H.O.P fundraisers, community clean ups, demonstrations at the Wachovia Center, Riversharks games, Globetrotters, the And 1 Mixed Basketball tour, Sumo Wrestling event at Wachovia, Wedgewood Elementary, Deptford Mall, Super Saturday, 4th of July Parade, Womens group of Washington Twp, Bunker Hill Middle School, Chesnut Ridge Middle School, Orchard Valley Middle School, Nicole Frese foundations, the Connor Patrick Quinn Fund, are just a few to mention that our students have participated in.

Thats it for now, I have to prep for my bootcamp class that is going to be sick tommorow.  If your up for the challange, let’s do it!
