Project Portfolio-Start it today

July 15, 2008

This week everyone who is participating in the back to school edge program or who would like to should be organizing their very own project portfolio. There are many ways that this can be done. So i wanted to take the time, and review them with everyone. Please take a look at the Q and A below.

Q and A

Q-What is a project portfolio?

A-A project portfolio is each students portfolio of all community events, and or services that he or she has been involved with since being at the school. This should include any type of kick-a-thons, fundraisers, community clean up, special demonstrations, or anything else that you participated in that was for the greater good. The idea is to keep building this portfolio through out your life. And for children, this would be great to build, so when its time to go-to college we can present this to show his/her accomplishments.

Q-What do I do with it?

A-Students can email all accomplishments to senseinick@championswayoflife.comand it will be posted on Sensei Nick’s Blog. Or you can start you own blog and then I will link your blog to my blog to help build a network of everyone that is working on this project….

Q-What if i havent done the assignent’s in the previous weeks?

A-It’s ok…You can get invloved in this program at any time, and we are always taking new members.

Also—-We are still waiting for more vision boards from all the students, so get it done.

Winning-Is it in you?

July 14, 2008

This weekend I spent a lot of time with one of my mentor’s Master Farid Dordar. Master Farid has always given me awesome business advice, as well as coaching me in personal growth. Well, this weekend the lesson was simple-How to be a winner…..

For those of you who I talk to often, you might remember me telling you about the book “Winning” by Jack Welch. In this book, I have adopted several tips and i recommend it you as well. The point I’m trying to make is that winning is all about who you surround yourself around. And this is an important lesson for everyone. When I look at back at when I struggled in my life, or went through rough periods of time, I noticed that the people I were in my inner circle were nothing to write home about.

This weekend I was proud to see a dear friend, (one of my best friends) achieve a really successful weekend at a martial arts trade show. He had a few characteristics that were exactly what Master Farid had talked about. Please try to use them in your life. And to my family at Champions Way—Thank you for teaching me how to be # 1. And I look forward to next year…..

1. Winning is in your DNA-Most of us either have or we don’t

2. Winners are never satisfied

3. Winners only want to be #1—anything less is not enough

4. Winners care about personal growth just as much a financial growth

5. Winners have a certain look—-Clean, dress well, and like to dance (still working on the last one)

6. Winners don’t make excuses

7. Winners spend more time thinking how it can be better in the future than talking about how good a job  was

8. Winners don’t dwell in the past-they are always looking forward and never behind them.

“Don’t let good enough, be good enough!”-Bill Parcells…

Let me know what you think and please share your secrets on winning!

Edge Program Success

July 9, 2008

First I would like to thank everyone who has participated in our Edge program so far. My Email is down right now, nut when it comes back I will be able to upload some great pictures of the vision boards that students have done so far. Off the top of my head I would like to say some of the best ones I have seen have been the Martin brothers, Dawn form Muay Thai, Brandon Butler, Connor Buckmaster or C-Buck, Debbie Canuso, and Little Richie from the Dragons class. Oh, yeh and Jules Elwood!

If you haven’t done your vision board, its not too late. Please take the time and just do it. Being a martial artist is about using your mind and body, so I would really like to see all adult students participate in this exercise.

One of the biggest challenges people face in the world is time management. So this week please make sure to work on your time management flow chart. If you need help or would like to use our chart to allocate your time, please see the front desk. One of my favorite books- “Winning” by Jack Welch talks about the 4 characteristics of successful people. And in this book it talks about the 4 E”s.

1. Energy

2. Passing Energy to others

3. Edge

4. Execution

Most people according to Jach Welch have the first two characteristics, then there is a significant drop off in 3 and 4. Well, this exercise is to show you the small secret of Edge and Execution, Time Management!

Be a person of Edge and Execution-Do all the exercises and get caught up so you have and Edge in life…..

So this could be a good experience for the children to do something that can be seen by thousands of people. I really need to start working on my vision board. Time is running out.

Vison Board-Three Days left

June 25, 2008

Well, the pressure in on right now for everyone participating in the Back to school edge program. There is only three days left to complete the assignment. I have to be honest, I haven’t even started yet. I can’t wait to dedicate some time to this task. I believe it will be a such a relaxing task, and good time for me to think about my future.

I also wanted to explain the assignment in more detail. I was telling one of the parents that “Life skills” aren’t taught in school or in team sports.( I’m sure there is always your exception or special coach or teacher that does.)  Also it is or job to teach the life skills that will last forever. I am especially grateful for the life skills that were taught to me by my parents. After spending the last 16 years in the real world ( Since I was 18) I really have come to appreciate my parents. I know NOW, that my parents were awesome. And I have taken alot of my dad with me.

What I’m saying is this is a great opportunity to teach your children, or yourself about goal setting. Teaching someone how to set and accomplish goals is one of the most valuable life lessons that can be taught. Please do your best to make it happen. The vision board should be what you see in your future. There is no pass or fail. Be you! This is the best advice I ever recieved from a close friend “Be You” . I would love to see your vison board.

Week 1-Vision Board-Champions Edge Program

June 21, 2008

Week 1-Vision Board

In the past we have had our students fill out our goal sheets on a piece of paper. For this assignment we would like the students to make their very own vision board. This project is for everyone. Whether your in our kids class or an adult Muay Thai student, this exercise is exciting.

What is a “Vision Board” ? A vision board is your vision of where your life is heading. It’s where you would like your life to go. Please remember there are no two vision boards that should look the same. One suggestion is to cut of pictures of a dream house, a leader that you hope to become. If you hope to have a big family one day, cut out a picture of a family. Another option is to make a desktop vision board for your computer.

Be creative with this assignment and if children’s are performing this task, please provide your child with guidance but let the children be creative and use their imagination.

I look forward to seeing your vision board. Get started!

Regards,

Sensei Nick

Remembering Mike Giandrea

June 11, 2008

Monday morning my mom called me at the school and told me that a childhood friend passed away. His name was Michael Giandrea. I met him in third grade, and were close until our early twenty’s when we both went in different directions (He went to vegas, I started traveling to Martial Arts Tournaments. We both drove our parents crazy, especially during our teen years. Our parents were the ones who always drove us to the movies, and had everyone over our houses for dinner. Mike was the assistant casino manager of a major casino in Las Vegas. While driving home from work, a drunk driver was on the opposite side of the road and killed him instantly.

It was shocking to hear this tragic story and I would like to send my condolences to his family. If you knew Mike please send me an email. I would like to make a section on my blog in remembrance of him. He was my first friend when I moved from South Philadelphia to New Jersey. I grew up with him, and considered him one of my best friends. I’m going to miss you Mike, but I will always m all the fun times we shared together. You were always the center of attention, and I will never forget when you came to my window to borrow a pair of “Z Cavarrici” pants I had because my mom would flip out if she new I would let you or Bob borrow my clothes.

I remember playing whiffle ball with you, Doug Smith, Bob Kahler, Ryan Landers, at your house like every day. I remember eating bagels and Ice Tea every morning in the summer at your house. I remember watching all the Mike Tyson Fights at my house or yours. I remember when we would get in fights for hanging around each other too much. I remember you dad always driving us to the movie. I remember me, you , Bob, Shivers, and a whole bunch of girls listening to “Mill Vanilli” all night in my basement, one of the best nights ever.

I remember the night Scott Landers, and Dave Taylor saved us from the “Deptoford Township Posse” and by the way. you started it. LOL….. But that was a crazy night. I remember the night when the “Fam” came to your house and was looking for you. Man, we shared so many times together. But I so Happy to talk to your Dad today and hear that you were doing so well with your life. He was so proud of you, I am so proud of what you did with your life. There were hundreds of people and old friends today in remembrance of you.
